The Power Behind Every Smile

There is power behind every smile, a contagious power. A smile is a simple expression that can change your mood, instantly. We begin smiling, as early as in the womb, as evidenced by 3D ultrasound. We are born with the ability to use this basic expression. When we smile, we express what we are feeling.

Children smile without any reservation, some even grabbing their mouths to make their smile even wider, for a camera to capture. Smiling not only reduces our stress levels, it can also be quite contagious. When you smile, you show your confidence to others. Smiling is mood altering and life changing. Smiling, even if you have nothing to smile about, will induce pleasure to you and those around you.

Smile! It's what we tell our children to do when we're about to snap a picture. It's what we offer to strangers we pass in the street, to be polite. We smile when we are happy and when we are laughing. Unfortunately, the older we get, the more reluctant we are to share our smile, too embarrassed to show our missing or cracked teeth.

Teeth Today will help you smile with dental implants. Dental implants fill the empty spaces in your mouth, and let the world see your beautiful smile. With dental implants, you'll no longer be that person in the family portrait, hiding their smile. You'll proudly show your bright smile. Dental implants, unlike a bridge or dentures, can last a lifetime.
Don't let broken or missing teeth steal your smile. Share the power behind your smile, and speak with a specialist today, to learn more.

Can Dental Implants Help Someone Who is Missing Just One Tooth?

Dental Implants can replace one tooth or many teeth.  Many patients come in to have just one missing tooth replaced.  A missing tooth in the back of the mouth can lead to problems with other teeth shifting as well as an improper bite.  By replacing a missing tooth, natural function is restored.

When the missing tooth is in the front of the mouth, replacing that tooth has the added advantage of restoring a person’s smile.  Dental implants look and function like natural teeth.  In fact, when someone has one missing tooth replaced with a dental implant, the result is so natural that the implant tooth mimics the appearance of the natural teeth.

Dental Implants or Implant Dentistry?

What's the Difference Between Dental Implants and Implant Dentistry?

"Dental implants” is a widely used term, but many doctors also use the term “implant dentistry.”  What’s the difference?

What's a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are by definition artificial tooth roots that are placed below the gum line to support restorations that take the place of one or more teeth.  Over the years, the term “dental implant” has expanded to include not only the artificial tooth root, but the restoration.  When someone says, “I have dental implants,” they usually mean implant-supported restorations, not just the implants themselves.

What's a Dental Implant?

The term “implant dentistry” is broader and more descriptive, because it covers the entire discipline of dentistry related to replacing missing teeth with implant supported restorations.  The discipline of implant dentistry includes diagnosis, treatment planning, the surgical and restorative phases of dental implant treatment, and follow up.

The bottom line is that “implant dentistry” is more comprehensive, but the phrase “dental implants” is commonly understood as a shorthand for dental implant treatment.

Dental Implants Replace Failing Teeth

Dental implants are often used to replace missing teeth, but they are also a wonderful option for patients with failing teeth.  Many people have teeth that are no longer healthy or functional.  They know that these teeth have to be replaced and they are looking for alternatives.  Replacing failing teeth with dental implants is often an excellent choice.

TeethToday specialists can remove failing teeth and replace them with dental implants and give patients not only a wonderful smile, but also new teeth that look and function just like healthy, natural teeth.

People who have their failing teeth replaced with dental implants are often amazed by their new teeth and smile.  The biggest regret from these patients is that they wish they had taken advantage of dental implant treatment sooner.

Dental Implants are a Great Value

Patients often have questions about the cost of dental implants.  Many factors affect cost:  the patient’s overall health and dental needs, the amount and quality of of bone available, and of course how many teeth are missing and need to be replaced.  There are also different implant options, such as creating a denture that is secured by dental implants.

At the time of your free TeethToday consultation, you should discuss options with the doctor and the treatment coordinator.  Whichever option you choose, keep in mind that dental implants are a great value for the dollar.  For many patients, they are definitive solution, because implants can last from thirty years to a lifetime.

Dental Implants are an Investment

If you buy a new car, what do you have in five years?  You have an old car that has lost much of its value.  In ten years, that same car may be very costly to maintain and it will be worth only a fraction of its purchase price.  With dental implants, you make the investment once and enjoy quality of life improvements for decades.  There are options regarding the initial cost of dental implants, but in all cases they provide a substantial value.

Dental Implants: the Preferred Replacement Teeth Option

When someone is missing a tooth, they have several options available for tooth replacement.  One option is to have a bridge.  However, anchoring a bridge requires the teeth on either side of the missing tooth to be “prepared” or cut down.  It is often the case that two healthy teeth need to be cut down just to replace a missing tooth between them.

One of the great advantages of dental implants is that adjacent teeth are left untouched.  A single dental implant is a one-for-one tooth replacement.  When it comes to replacing a missing tooth, dental implants are the most conservative option, not only because they look and function like natural teeth, but also because they do not require adjacent, health teeth to be ground down and used as an anchors for an old-fashioned bridge.

Dental Implants Increase Your Self-Confidence

Dental implants can change your life. When patients have unhealthy or failing teeth, they become self-conscious, especially in public.  They don’t want to smile or laugh because they are embarrassed about their teeth or smile.

When dental implants are used to replace unsightly or missing front teeth, the cosmetic benefits are often dramatic.  Patients can talk, eat, smile, and laugh with confidence.  They become more relaxed in social situations, and they often get compliments on their new smile.

While many patients need dental implants for practical reasons —they want to be able to chew their food properly—the cosmetic benefits of dental implants are also very meaningful to the quality of patients’ lives.

Dental Implants Improve Comfort and Appearance

Dental implants look and function like natural teeth.  For that reason, they provide patients with great comfort and the appearance of natural teeth.  You have probably met people who have a great looking smile.  Some of these people may have dental implants, but you won’t be able to tell.  That’s why we say that dental implants are the closest thing possible to healthy natural teeth.

Don't Wait for Dental Implants

One of the most common comments from dental implant patients is, “I wish I had done it sooner!”  Dental implants often make patients look more vibrant and healthy.  They are replacement teeth that can last 30 years or more and keep patients smiling.

Dental Implants Look, Feel and Act Like Natural Teeth

Patients often ask us what limitations or restrictions they will have after dental implant treatment has been completed.  The good news is that there are no dietary restrictions with dental implants.  You will be able to eat all your favorite foods.

With dental implants you can eat the same foods you would with all natural, healthy teeth.  Unlike patients who have dental problems prior to dental implant treatment, after you have your dental implants you will be able to go into a restaurant and order the food you want to eat, the not the food you used to be limited to eating.

Think of your dental implants as being as functional as health natural teeth.

Dental Implants: The Conservative Option

For the traditional “three-unit bridge,” replacing a missing tooth involves grinding down adjacent teeth so they can support the bridge.  The result of this treatment is that two good teeth have to be compromised just to replace one missing tooth.

One of the benefits of dental implants is that adjacent teeth are left untouched.  A dental implant is a one-for-one replacement.  The missing tooth is replaced with a dental implant.  Adjacent and opposing natural teeth continue to function.

One of the goals of implant dentistry is to make sure that the implant tooth looks and functions like a natural tooth, so the patient can talk, chew, smile, and laugh.  By using dental implants, a conservative yet high tech and modern approach, the doctor makes sure that the patient gets the best of  both worlds—the most advanced tooth replacement system ever devised working in harmony with natural teeth.

Am I Too Old to Have Dental Implants?

Many patients wonder if they have waited too long to enjoy the benefits of implant dentistry.  The good news is that age by itself is not a limiting factor.  There are many examples of patients in their 80’s and 90’s who elect to proceed with dental implant treatment.  After treatment, they are very pleased with their decision.

While age by itself will not disqualify someone from being a candidate for dental implants, doctors are careful to assess each patient’s overall health.  Patients who have significant or chronic medical conditions may not be good candidates for dental implants.  Examples include some patients who are receiving chemotherapy for cancer or patients who have uncontrolled diabetes.  Each case is different, however, so the best thing to do is ask your doctor if you are a candidate for dental implants.

Dental Implants Never Need Root Canals

Dental implants have many benefits. One of the great benefits of dental implants is that they never require root canals.  Sometimes root canal therapy is recommended to save a natural tooth, but dental implants consist of prosthetic teeth that are firmly anchored in the jaw with artificial tooth roots.  Dental implants look and function just like natural teeth, except that they are not subject to cavities and they never need root canal therapy.

Dental implants are long-lasting tooth replacements that give patients piece of mind.  While excellent home care and regular dental visits are highly recommended to prevent periodontal disease, the implants themselves are extremely durable.

With proper care, most dental implants last a lifetime, and they eliminate any possibility of needing a root canal.
